For those already familiar with electronic dance music, you are probably familiar with dubstep as well. For those not so versed in electronic dance music, it is time to find out what this music is about. After learning a little more, you may want to search for songs in this style free online. Parents of teenagers may have already heard of Skrillex. I'm going to give you my take on just why this new style of music is here to stay.
1. Music is all about rhythm. And the rhythm of this genre is entrancing. It is what we call a head nodder. It is at a tempo that isn't necessarily fast or slow enough for dancing to, but it is perfect for bopping along to, nodding along with the music. The drums are slower than a typical dance song, set about 70 BPM, and this combined with the futuristic sounding keyboard sounds going double that speed gives you an almost panicked feeling. This is what it's all about. This combined with the low, shaking bass lines that rattle your bones make this the music all the clubs want to play.
2. Popular artists like Britney Spears and Pitbull have already started incorporating this style in their music. This is just the beginning. We can expect an insurgence into the popular music scene. It is a tempo that is already being used in different styles of hip hop.
3. Like many underground innovations, purists are already becoming worried that once this style actually hits mainstream it will quickly become played out. I don't believe this will ever happen. Every style of popular music originally developed from something underground. Genres like punk, hip hop, grunge, rock and roll and even the blues. Just because the style becomes popular doesn't mean it will lose it's underground significance. The introduction of it into mainstream will only cause the music to evolve and become better as new producers push the limits for a better, fresher sound that stands out.
If you are one of the chance people who has never heard a dubstep song, look up something online, preferably a remix of a popular song to break you in. Click here to hear some latest songs. A word of warning, this music is not for everyone!
